It was only last week that I was in New York for one of the most exciting times of the year in the city…FASHION WEEK.
I sadly didn’t make it to any shows, however I have been trying to constantly stay up to date with any new collections that walked down the runway. These are a few of my fave:
Fenty X Puma
Rihanna once again has me SHOOK. I am always a fan of the Fenty X Puma collections but @badgalriri (‘bad gal’ for a REASON) has outdone herself from anything in the past.
I feel the best way to describe this collection would be to call it athleisure’s sexier looking friend with a bad ass attitude. The collection was inspired by TV show ‘X games’ which is totally evident through the heavy usage of industrial looking zips, buckles and mesh material. Although, there is a slight hint of Californian beach babe with the model’s glossy, sun-kissed skin and retro swimsuit designs.
The entire show was done in classic Rihanna style – completely wild and over the top. I’d say the two most crazy things about this collection are the new flip-slop stiletto’s (you heard me) and the fact our badgal rode into the show on an actual motorbike…we love u Rihanna, please don’t ever change!
I have been a massive fan of Victoria Beckham for years upon years. Her timeless class and confident elegance has always inspired me, although she has come a LONG way since her Posh Spice days of stilettos and perfectly tailored dresses.
Before the show, Victoria spoke a lot abut femininity and how delicate things can be strong which seems to be the inspiration for the entire collection. Soft, pastel colours were used a lot throughout the pieces along with a couple of classically striking red, white and black pieces that are always expected from Beckham. The use of these colours within such masculine, some very slouchy looking fabric cuts is the perfect image of strong, empowered, female delicacy. I am a massive fan of this collection – I am not only in love with the message that is conveyed throughout the pieces but also the pastel palette which I, being a complete girly girl, am a complete sucker for.
Jeremy Scott’s new collection is hands down my favourite to have walked in NYFW. Most people don’t understand Jeremy’s designs and must think to themselves ‘what is this man doing?’ but he has been one of my favourite designers for years. When it comes to fashion – I love anything weird and wonderful.
This show was actually Scott’s 20th anniversary, so he decided to look back at previous collections for inspiration. So if like me you’ve been a follower for years, it’s not hard to recognize the cartoon designs and almost neon pallet from his other collections from throughout his design history.
In classic Jeremy Scott manner, the collection did in fact have an almost ‘tacky’ look which is actually intentional and in my opinion could fit in the closet of any person’s wardrobe easily.
